The Super Top-up Strategy
Buying a massive 50 Lakh base health insurance policy is extremely expensive. Instead, smart financial planners use a combination of a Base Policy and a Super Top-up Policy.
- Base Policy (e.g., 5-10L): This pays for standard hospitalizations. It is relatively expensive per lakh of coverage.
- Super Top-up Policy (e.g., 40L with 5-10L deductible): This policy is incredibly cheap. It only activates if your total hospital bills in a year exceed the deductible (which is covered by your base policy).
Intelligence Insight: Never include senior citizen parents in the same Family Floater policy as younger adults. Health insurance premiums are determined by the age of the oldest member. If a 60-year-old parent is in the floater, the 30-year-old son pays a massive premium. Always buy separate policies for parents.
